How Vanity Plate Exchange works

VPX is a marketplace, not an auction, and does not guarantee a sale or transfer.

For sellers

  1. Create a free account and confirm your email.
  2. Create a private draft with plate details and an asking price.
  3. Add a plate photo and private registration document.
  4. Submit the listing for VPX review and make any requested corrections.
  5. Receive private offers and accept, counter, or decline.
  6. After agreeing on price, review the service fee and expected proceeds.
  7. Complete Stripe-hosted payout setup and follow the transfer checklist.
Sell My Plate

For buyers

  1. Browse approved live listings without creating an account.
  2. Review the listing, state guidance, asking price, and review status.
  3. Create an account when you are ready to make a private offer.
  4. Submit an offer; the seller may accept, counter, or decline.
  5. After price agreement, review the full amount and complete private checkout.
  6. Follow VPX transaction updates and current state-agency instructions.

Offers are private—not public bids

A buyer's offer is not a purchase or reservation. A seller may accept, counter, or decline. Even an accepted offer does not by itself complete payment or guarantee that a government agency will approve the personalized plate.

Fees, checkout, and seller proceeds

Listing is free. VPX's current seller service fee is 10% of the agreed sale price. After a deal is priced, the buyer uses a private Stripe checkout. The seller sees the price, fee, and expected proceeds associated with the transaction.

Payment is not a DMV transfer. Stripe-hosted payout setup and transaction conditions must be satisfied before seller proceeds can be sent.

State approval remains separate

VPX helps coordinate the transaction but does not issue, reserve, register, or approve personalized plates. Confirm current requirements with the applicable government agency before acting.
